Knowing the family and couple counseling theories. Consulting to determine the differences between the approaches and techniques. Family and couple counseling theories and techniques, different models for the description. Active, participatory and reflective listening and counselling skills. Ability to work with the family and winning.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 History and development of family and couple counseling, objectives and general principles.
2 Psychodynamic approach and insight, constructivist approach: (Watzlawick, structuralism, and communication), Cognitive-behavioral approach (Ellis, Beck), Strategic approach: Haley Family Therapy and Short-Term Therapy (relationship control power, hierarchy).
3 System approach / family system / healthy-unhealthy family: Minuchin (structural systems), Bowen (systematic family and the "natural systems), and Satir s (composite family) approach and techniques
4 Existential - Dialectical approach (Camus, Yalom, Köknel), Humanistic approach (Maslow, Rogers), Educational approaches, Hope-Focused Marriage Counseling,
5 The initial interview Listening skills and help Assessment and Intervention Techniques
6 Marriage and relationship problems, double-dealings, skills of parents, Communication, conflict and divorce process
7 Loss, grief, and trauma, Support After trauma to children, young people and adults
8 Student Presentations and Homework
9 Self-harm, being Workaholic, emotional abuse, neglect and violence
10 Family life changes (job change, relocation, immigration, foster parent-child, adoption, etc.).

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Working Group participation, hands-on, informative and CD/Video display. Seminar presentations for cognitive and learning for life size interpretation and drama, such as role playing, mirroring and matching, and Psychodrama techniques are. Genogram-redefining the use of stories,-communication skills-problem solving skills-sculpture model.

As long as a certain approach to consultation and intervention strategy for the analysis and critique of the article describing the 1 book and 1 APA style writing homework will be prepared. Seminar presentation will take place.
