Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to give the student an understanding of the audio signal path in sound reinforcement and recording systems and give the practical and theoretical knowledge required to follow and operate in the signal path.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   . Define the reference signal levels in different sound systems and optimizing the systems to match those levels
2   Follow the audio signal path in sound recording and reinforcement systems
3   Make the interconnections of sound reinforcement system components (mixers, amps, loudspeakers, recording devices, processors etc.)
4   . Make signal routings between sound reinforcement system components (mixers, amps, loudspeakers, recording devices, processors etc.)
5   Connect and operate on different and larger sound reinforcement systems with the theoretical and practical knowledge gained from this course

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The course will be carried out with theoretical explanations in class followed by practical sessions in the studio. The practical sessions will be held with small workgroups. Students are encouraged to work in the studio, alone or in groups, if there is free time available.

Assessment Criteria

Students will have one midterm and one final exam through the semester.

70% course attendance is mandatory.
The students are responsible with the use of the recording studio and all its equipment.
Students who wish to practice individually or as a group should inform the course instructor and schedule their practice sessions taking available studio hours into account.
Only students taking this course are allowed to attend courses and practice sessions. No one else other than the attendants of the course should be allowed in the studio, even if he/she is a student of the music technology department or not.
