Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide the students a detailed insight into the properties, shortcuts and efficient usage of the industry standard digital audio workstation software, ProTools.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Perform the ProTools functions and abilities with efficiency,
2   Relate ProTools operations to different applications in audio industry (such as music recording, Music editing, arranging, audio for video etc.),
3   Use the shortcuts and unique properties of the software,
4   Use the advanced editing and mixing tools ProTools offers (Elastic Audio, Beat Detective, Audiosuite and RTAS Plug-ins etc.),
5   Develop the skills required to perform creative recording, editing and mixing operations over ProTools.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be carried out with lectures and real-time applications. The course instructor explains the operations and shows them to the students. All students apply the operations individually in order to internalize the software. Each week new operations, properties and techniques are shown to maintain a steady improvement. Assignments may also be given.

70% course attendance is mandatory.
The students are responsible with the use of the computer lab, recording studio and all the equipment.
Students who wish to practice individually or as a group should inform the course instructor and schedule their practice sessions taking available lab hours into account.
Only students taking this course are allowed to attend courses and practice sessions. No one else other than the attendants of the course should be allowed in the lab or the studio, even if he/she is a student of the music technology department or not.
