Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide the students with the abilities and competences in measuring, calculating and evaluating environmental noise with the aid of environmental noise standarts. The students will also have the ability of properly preparing reports of the analysis results in the official formats.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learn basic noise parameters and calculation methods,
2   Make field measurements with an understanding of measurement techniques,
3   Calculate emission according to the relevant standards,
4   Calculate environmental noise level,
5   Understand and apply necessary analysis methods for highways, railroads and airways,
6   Create noise maps and reports.

7 Introduction to Vibration, Basic concepts, sources of vibration and their properties, effects of vibration on people
8 Vibration measurements, equipments and calibration techniques
9 Preventive measures for vibration and preventive techniques
10 Definition of Environmental Noise (Industry, Transportation)

Course Policies and Rules

Class participation, active involvement in class, problem solving skills, active participation in the applications and skills in evaluating the results are the main requirements for the course. Late arrivals after the first ten minutes will not be permitted and the student will be considered as not available. The course will be held in 2+1=3 hour sessions and in the same day.
