To give students essential theoretical and applied skills regarding fugal writing.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define and apply the principles of fugal style.
2   Create melodic lines such as the fugue subject, answer, counter-subject, etc.
3   Describe the Exposition, Development (Working-Out Section), and Stretto sections theoretically.
4   Analyze works written in fugal style formally and harmonically.
5   Compose and demonstrate the Exposition section of a four-voice fugue.

Lectures
In-class lectures are carried out through the instructions on the principles of fugue written on the music staff board by the instructor and through varied and individual realizations of students.

Homework Assignments
Homework assignments aim that students thoroughly comprehend the subject matter covered in-class lectures and consist of examples prepared by the instructor.

EXAMS: Two exams (midterm and final) will be held during and at the end of the semester; a student will earn 100% of his/her grade through these exams. Questions will include topics covered in classes. Students are required to answer the questions on exam sheets handed out by the instructor.
