Course Objective

The course provides a guidance towards the practice of scientific thought accepted as a universally common language and looks into the criteria for scientific language and writing. It also introduces the principles used in productive work such as theses, reports and articles which require internationally common writing and expression techniques. It also aims at introducing the steps of carrying out research and help students gain the ability to write on an international level.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   By the end of the semester students are expected; to be able to describe the methodological difference between art and science as forms of original production,
2   to be able to apply the procedures pertaining to scientific research method,
3   to be able to apply scientific writing techniques
4   to be able to identify publication types and evaluate them
5   to be able to do Internet, library and literature research

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Course is conducted theoretically. Perception of art and traditional styles of cultures are presented by the instructor through exemplifications using visual materials and comparative analysis. Discussions and debates are encouraged in class in order for students to exchange their opinions.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There will be two written exams throughout the term and 90% of the students yearly total will be assessed by these exams. Each exam will cover the class material and the questions will cover the course subjects.
In Mıd-terms and final questions comprise either closed or open ended questions or both depending on the instructor s prevision.

Students average midterm exam and a final exam or final exam below 50 below 50 are not allowed in the event the student condition examination.

Assessment Criteria

Exams:
Exams are geared towards assessing whether the students have gained the skills described in the programme outcomes based on the measurement techniques mentioned above.

Participation in class:
Students are assessed according to, (a) their attendance records, (b) the level of kowledge displayed in their answers to the questions adressed to them by the instructor and (c) their contribution to the creation of a positive learning environment.
