Course Objective

This course aims to teach students features of makam- modal music through melody and make students able to analyse samples of maqam-modal music.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the terminology of maqam-modal music,
2   Define scale examples of maqam-modal music theoratically,
3   Define rhythmic chracteristics of maqam-modal music theoratically,
4   Determine changes in scale and rhythmic features in maqam-modal music samples,
5   Determine auditory maqam-modal examples in the level of scale and rhythm.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Instructor will explaine of the terminology of maqam-modal music analysis. During the lessons this terminology will be tested by the printed sheet music and audio samples.
