Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the basic rules of connecting chords in root form and its inversions and write polyphonic parts over a bass line in order to give the students the abilities of polyphonic writing and harmonic analysis.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Apply the basic principles to connect triad chords and write them in 4 part forms within the tonality,
2   Identify and write root, 1st and 2nd inversions of triad chords,
3   Identify and write dominant seventh chords in every tonality,
4   Apply harmonic writing over a bass line,
5   Harmonically analyze the sonatine form of the classical period.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The rules and techniques of polyphonic music writing will be given by the instructor with examples while the students will actively participate in the subjects in a turn based manner.
Home assignments will be given according to each subject to be delivered until the next class.
