Course Objective

To become competent at painting, to be able to develop personal projects, to come up with artistic creations utilizing various materials.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Make competent use of gouache and other water based paints.
2   Come up with individual projects that are suitable for the materials used.
3   Learn about the opportunities of color mixing and be able to understand the relationships between colors.
4   Create form and volume with the help of colors.
5   Conceptualize their works.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Designation of the semester plan and the general framework of the studies. Preliminary meeting about the projects.
2 Evaluation of personal projects, making of preliminary sketches with gouache.
3 Evaluation of personal projects, lecturing about the material properties of gouache paint, demonstrational applications.
4 Continuing the study with gouache and evaluation of individual works.
5 Continuing the study with gouache and evaluation of individual works.
6 Discussion of the opportunities of creating volume with the help of gouache and its tonal properties.
7 Discussion of the opportunities of creating volume with the help of gouache and its tonal properties.
8 Forming a composition based on the interaction of space and figure, preliminary sketches with black and white gouache.
9 Space-figure gouache study continues.
10 Utilization of the opportunities of creating depth in space with black-white gouache.
11 Utilization of the opportunities of creating depth in space with black-white gouache.
12 Discussion of color possibilities with gouache and a preliminary study on the opportunities of color mixing.
13 Making a color still life study with gouache.
14 Evaluation of individual projects, general semester evaluation.

The students must attend the classes for a duration set by the regulations.
If a student has his own suggestions for creative projects, these suggestions are evaluated and the student could be allowed to work on a project that is diferent from what's been assigned to the other students.
The scope of the project and the size and the number of works to be created are flexible; individual adaptations are possible.
