Course Objective

The aim of the course is to understand the meaning and significance of digital photography, to discuss the present transformations, to know the related software and hardware, to have basic knowledge on technology

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend the principles of digital image formation.
2   Understanding the differences between analogue and digital systems.
3   To understand the working principle of the DSLR camera.
4   To be able to comprehend digital image production terminology.
5   Understanding the DSLR camera menu and functions.
6   To understand lens technology and terminology.
7   Apply alternative methods in digital image production.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Digital image formation.
2 Differences between digital cameras and analogue cameras, based on sensor and filter.
3 Lens designs and their historical development (Between 1800-1930).
4 The rise of the Japanese lens industry from 1930 to the present day.
5 Infrared photography and shooting techniques.
6 Canon FX DSLR camera interior and exterior design review
7 Nikon DSLR camera interior and exterior design review.
8 Canon lens groups video review (Canon 24-105 and 50mm 1.4).
9 Liquid Lenses and Do Lenses. Review and presentation.
10 Infrared photo shootings and students presentations.
11 Bokeh concept and vignette.
12 Lens abbreviations, error codes and flash usage codes.
13 Mirrorless camera and digital rangefinger review.
14 Lens angles and effect on the image.
