Course Objective

The aim of this course is to discuss the biochemical structure of CNS and its roles in neuronal diseases, to learn brain metabolism and to introduce neuro-endocrinology.
In the practical related to the course, the following applications will be conducted: CSF biochemistry, cell counting, CSF IgG index, CSF oligoclonal band analysis and to interpret the other routine biochemical markers in CNS disorders.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand, at the introductory level, neurochemistry which is one of the subject areas of biochemistry
2   Have expertise in the theoretical basis of advance laboratory techniques in neuro-chemical research.
3   Have the knowledge on biochemical markers of neuronal diseases and interpretation the test s results,
4   Present neuronal tissue characteristics including biochemical structure, brain metabolism and their clinical aspects.
5   Demonstrate skills in laboratory work related to neuronal damage markers (Ex: Enzyme kinetics, enzyme activity measurement, inhibition).
