Course Objective

The aim of this course is the acquisition of general properties of hormones, the structure, synthesis and mechanism of action and the basic functions of hormones in human body.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Discuss the general properties of the hormones
2   Explain the structure, synthesis of main hormones of the human body
3   Explain the mechanisms of action at cell membrane and intracellular level
4   Discuss the cellular signal transduction pathways of the hormones
5   Discuss the basic functions of the hormones

1 Classification of the hormones, general properties and mechanisms of action at cellular level Structure, synthesis, mechanism of action and basic functions of hypothalamus and pituitary hormones, Structure, synthesis, mechanism of action and basic functions of thyroid, adrenal medulla and cortex, pancreatic and sex hormones
