Course Objective

This course aims to acquaint the students with data collecting and analysis methods in ethnomusicology; and to provide methodological and technical skills on music studies conducting with ethnomusicological perspective.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To explain methodological relationships between ethnomusicology and other disciplines [anthropology, sociology, cultural studies],
2   To define the methodology related terminologies and concepts which are use in ethnomusicology,
3   To independently design research project and determine the proper methods and techniques for study of music,
4   To apply methods and techniques for collecting audio-visual and literary data which are related with a musical problem,
5   To review and refer international literature in Ethnomusicology discipline.
6   To report the results of research projects in written and verbally,
7   To defense production of scientific knowledge is a strategical process and it is dependent to methodology.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Courses:
The courses are theoretical and partly applied. Applied works consist of technical skills which are given examples by instructor and discussion reports of students in classroom.
Assignments:
Assignments aims to orientate the students to research on specific topics; and aims to presentation and discussion of results in class environment. Assignments are perform as individually and each student delivers minimum 2 works as assignment.
