Course Objective

To provide students with knowledge of theoretical base of qualitative educational research, knowledge and skills of gathering qualitative data, knowledge and skills of analysing qualitative data

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Nature of Science, scientific knowledge, scientific method, basic assumptions: ontology, epistemology, methodology and method.
2 Paradigms: positivism, post-positivism.
3 Qualitative research methods and data gathering techniques, mixed methods
4 Quality and ethics in qualitative research
5 Nature of qualitative data and the role of researcher in qualitative research
6 Qualitaive data analysis approaches: descriptive and content analysis
7 Useful tools during data collection and analysis in qualitative research.
8 Midterm exam
9 Phases of qualitative data analysis: data collection, data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion
10 Data reduction and coding: first level, causal, thematic and pattern codes
11 Data reduction: descriptive analysis and writing reports
12 Data reduction: descriptive analysis and writing reports
13 Data display: designing matrix and networks, entering data and writing findings
14 Tactics for conclusion drawing
15 General evaluation
