Course Objective

Students will understand globalization and new economic, political and social facts and concepts and their relations. Students will use new concepts orally and verbally. Students will be aware of the current educational problems of Turkey and will propose proper suggestions to them.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to realize the positive and negative effects of new conditions to educational systems
2   To be able to present new missions and tasks of educational system to together with objective reasons.
3   To be able to evaluate the application and reforms realized by the Ministry of Turkish National Education.
4   To be able to bring new solutions the educational problems at national and local level
5   To be able to write a report an educational problem
6   To believe the importance and necessity of developing new educational strategies in Turkey
7   Understanding globalization and new economic, political and social facts and concepts and their relations
8   Comprehending and analyzing the current educational problems of Turkey

Course Contents

1 Technological revolutions in history. Agricultural revolution, Industrial revolution and Scientific and Technological revolution.
2 Technological revolutions and new patterns of division of labour and productions. Globalization and international division of labor, globalized market and globalizations of the skills. Implications to educational sector
3 Scientific and technological revolution and historical background. New economical facts and New-liberal economic policies. New development models, strategic planning.
4 New educational planning models. The changes in developmental plans of Turkey. Educational privatization and commercialization. Educational reform strategies. New financing ways.
5 Social and political effects of globalization: Increased social inequality at global level, the changing role of nation-states and decentralization. Limitations in central-state power. Invidualism, micro nationalism, religious movements, feminism and environmentalism and new roles of educational systems.
6 National educational policies and strategies. New affective and cognitive educational objectives. The equalizing role of education and related problems. The citizenship training role of education and related problems and Turkish education system. The increasing importance of primary education.
7 New economical facts and education: Multi-tasked and flexible production, Innovation- Mediated Production Knowledge production. Global labour market, increased competiveness and their implications to educational systems. The evaluation of educational systems at global level. Structural adjustment in educational organizations.
8 Midterm exam
9 New educational technologies, learning and teaching methods. New educational measurement end evaluation techniques.
10 Increasing importance of national educational objectives of Turkey. Increasing importance schooling and the quality of education. The critical role of pre-school education in new conditions.
11 Increasing importance of higher education and its objective reasons. Turkish higher education The comparative analysis of Turkish higher education in terms of scientific research and technology production. Multi discipline approach and higher education.
12 Academic secondary education. Discussions about vocational and technical secondary education and reconstructing of secondary education. Vocational and technical in service training
13 Increasing importance women education and objective reasons. The reasons for lifelong education.
14 Students presentations (written and oral) feedbacks and corrections. The evaluation of the course.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods
