Course Objective

To comprehend advanced techniques of harmony through historical development

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate main concepts of harmony.
2   Explain various chord designs according to their principal aspects.
3   Recognize non-harmonic tones used in Baroque, Classic and Romantic periods.
4   Assess structural designs and tonal degrees of chords that involve multiple non-harmonic tones.
5   Analyse the place and importance of the smallest harmonic unit within the whole design.
6   Interpret the effects of functional harmony on the overall design of works.
7   Determine the musical period of a piece through its harmonic features.
8   List stylistic features of musical periods.
