Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students Near Eastern Mythology at doctorate level and to enable them to interpret mythological factors which shape historical understandings

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge of Near Eastern mythology
2   To get viewpoint to natural and social events in history and to comment
3   To evaluate relationship between mythology and history
4   To use a mythological element in history teaching
5   To explain mythological factors shaping historical understandings

6 Mythological subjects in the Egyptian religion
7 Perception of religion in the Canaan society
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Gods in the Phoenicians and Canaans
10 Religion in Hebrews
11 Gods of the Hebrews and Jews
12 Religion and gods in the Persian society
13 Hittites and their perception of god
14 Legends in Late Hittites and their influence to the West Impacts of the mythologies of the Near East on the societies of Jewish, Christian and Muslims
