Course Objective

To determine the importance of Ottoman monumental architecture in terms of architectural history by determining the identity of Ottoman Architecture within the general characteristics of Islamic Art and Architecture. In this context, architectural developments, building techniques and styles that emerged during and after the Classical Ottoman Period will be discussed and evaluated with examples. Issues such as the protection of historical heritage and the problem of restoration will also be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Perceives the historical framework as a whole and evaluates it from a broad perspective.
2   Introduces the types and examples of civil structures in Islamic art.
3   Determines the problem related to the field, projects solutions with alternatives.
4   It produces solutions for the protection of architectural and cultural heritage.
5   Gains the ability to independently carry out a work that requires expertise in the field of Turkish-Islamic art.
