Course Objective

The main interest of this course the internal and external developments in last period of the Ottomans, the developments in Europe in the same period, the First World War, the period of the National Struggle, the War of Independence of Türkiye, and the basic principles of the modern Republic of Türkiye.

1   The literature on the modernization process of the Ottomans and Türkiye
2   The reasons for the decline of the Ottomans and the developments in the world
3   The Ottoman reforms and their contributions to the modernization of Türkiye
4   The condition in which Ataturk grew up, his ideas and character
5   The Independence War of Türkiye and the principles of the Republic of Türkiye
