Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to achieve a necessary understanding of the process of the foundation of the republic and the revolution; the period of single party; the transition to the multi-party system. To make students understand the establishment and revolution process of the Republic of Türkiye, the single-party period and its events, and the internal and external dynamics of the transition to multi-party life. To examine the social reflections and cultural changes of the radical changes experienced with the Republic.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge about the political, social and legal foundations and changes of the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye.
2   To understand multi-party regime experiments and the development of democracy culture.
3   To understand the effects of Türkiye in the cold war by associating basic foreign policy problems with domestic policy problems.
4   Analyzing Civil-Military Relations in Türkiye.
5   To evaluate Türkiye's economic change and its reflections on society between 1923-1965.
