Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce the students the current issues in Turkish politics. Following an introduction of Turkish foreign policy until the Cold War period, the course will analyze current Turkish foreign policy by concentrating Turkey's relations with the USA, the EU, Middle East, Central Asia and Russia. In this examination the course will also focus on the external and internal factors that shape current foreign policy.

Assessment Criteria

At the end of the course the learner will be able to
1. Explain the current issues in Turkish foreign policy.
2. Identify the current Turkish foreign polıcy by concentrating on Turkey's relations with the USA, the EU, Greece, Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasus and Russia
3. Do an individual work or participate a group work in analyzing current Turkish foreign policy by focusing on external and internal factors.
4. Demonstrate high analytical and communcation skills in writing and presenting a research paper.
5. Demonstrate the skills to use library and internet resources independently.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Students are supposed to read all the articles and book chapters assigned for the week before coming to class.
2. Attendance (70 percent) is mandatory.
3. Participation to class discussions is compulsory.
4. If for any reason the student cannot attend the class, he/she is supposed to inform the instructor prior to class.
5. Plagiarism of any kind will result with disciplinary action.
