Course Objective

The aim is to familiarize the students with the principles of first and second language acquisition theories and teach them to think critically about the phenomenon of learning versus acquisition.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the claims and scope of different theories about second language learning
2   Interpret relevant SLA research that will inform language teaching
3   Apply SLA theories to analyze a language learning case study
4   Explain sociocultural, psychological and political variables that afford or constrain the process
5   Explain the role of individual learner variables in the process of learning English & investigate
6   Pose new questions about relevant issues in the field of SLA research
7   Compare and contrast different theoretical perspectives of language, the learner, and the
8   Evaluate the nature and extent of empirical support for SLA theories define the basic concepts related to second language acquisition
