Course Objective

This course aims at providing information and discussions about the representation
levels of grammar, with regard to the theory of Universal Grammar, especially the
Minimalist Program; syntactic derivation; components of grammar; the interfaces; providing information about syntactic theories other than UG.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Discussing the basic devices and mechanisms of Phase Theory
2   Describing, in detail, the repsesentation levels of Phase Theory
3   Identifying the significance of devices, such as Multiple Spell-out and Successive Cyclicity, for the theory
4   Starting discussions about other theories of syntax, such as Lexical-Functional Grammar and Categorial Grammar
5   Criticising, comparatively, Phase theory, Lexical Funtional Grammar and Categorial Gramamr
