Course Objective

The main purpose of the creation of the European Monetary Union is to achieve a balanced and sustainable economic growth in the EU. Using a strong and stable common currency and a properly functioning economic and monetary union are considered the basis for the EU to create a growth-oriented economy. The main aim of this course is to provide the theoretical and practical information regarding the technical and institutional structuring established in the transition to the common currency, which has an important place in the economic integration of the EU, and the monetary policies implemented by the European Central Bank.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the European Monetary Union, basic structure and its functioning
2   To discuss the main purpose of the European Monetary Union
3   To have extensive knowledge about institutions and organizations that implement monetary policy tools
4   To understand euro zone monetary policy strategies and implementations
5   To analyze the relationship between the functioning of the common currency euro and other currencies and monetary mechanisms
6   To evaluate the effects of global financial crises on the euro and their reflections on the monetary policies implemented by the European Central Bank.
