Course Objective

The aim of this course is to advance theoretical, methodological and analitical skills of the students for evaluation of literary (written in Turkish and English), visual and aural resources about concept of cultural mediation, and the intercultural role of music and musicians to negotiation and resolving conflicts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To approach 'cultural mediation' from intercultural pespective and to explain theoretical and practical aspects of the mediating role of music and musicians,
2   To define the cultural, stylistic and technical characteristics of musical practices which were discuss in class,
3   To comprehend the important roles of Roma(n) [Gypsies] national and international environments,
4   To research a specific problem which related with cultural mediation, and to present and discuss the results,
5   To follow and evaluate the international knowledges relevant to his/her research field.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Courses:
Lectures and presentations supported with audio-visual examples which reflect cultural and social aspects of music in everyday life of Western and Non-Western societies. Courses are base upon to understand and discuss the mediating role of music and professional musicians (especiall Gypsy musicians) in intercultural and multicultural societies.

Assignments:
Assignments aim to orientate the students to research on specific topics; and to presentation and discussion of results in class environment. Assignments are perform as individually or group work.
