Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to teach basic laboratory principles and to introduce advanced laboratory techniques. The course consists of theory and practice sections. In theoretical section of the course, the basic principles and procedures regarding the method are given.
In the implementation stage of the course, in ARLAB, central clinical chemistry lab and research lab of Biochemistry department the students have the chance to introduce all the details of electrophoresis tecniques, atomic absorbtion spectroscopy. They also spend time in liquid chromatography tandem MS lab. For one week, making experiments related to small molecule quantitation. During lab. Sessions the students take notes and prepare lab. Notebook that is evaluated by the coordinator at the end of the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be acquired the knowledge about the basic biochemistry and basic chemistry which are the main areas of biochemistry.
2   Be grasped the theoretical knowledge about the basic biochemistry and basic chemistry which are the main areas of biochemistry.
3   Have the knowledge about the principles and methods of basic laboratory equipments.
4   Be able to critically analyze the basic concepts of advanced laboratory methods (eg, basic differences in analysis of various compound in liquid chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry)
5   Synthesis: Be able to discuss the learned methods by considering different ways and be able to adapt to new situations (Example: to be able to discuss why different tissues contain different proteins)
6   Be able to present by explicating the results of one of the applied methods.
