Course Objective

Legal authority and responsibility about work safety of students who will graduate and a lesson which will be made situation evaluations concerning work safety in their jobs will be defined in mining engineering disciplines. Related regulations, labor law and the responsibilities of engineers will be explained in the lesson.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Put forward the general definitions of work safety definitions
2   To classify work accidents and occupational illness as statistically
3   To explain risk analysis and risk evaluation concepts with examples
4   Determining the responsibilities and powers of the engineers in terms of work safety and mining law
5   Examining of work safety in terms of legal in mine administrations

Course Contents

1 The importance of work safety and mining law, general definitions, international work safety regulations and assignment of homework
2 Evaluation of work safety and mining law, definition of general evaluation methods with the accident frequency rate and accident severity rate
3 Definition of occupational illness, the related regulations, the necessary precautions related to occupational illness
4 Labour Inspectorate, responsibilities of Ministry of labour and social security concerning work safety, laws and regulations.
5 Work safety measures to be taken in open pit mining
6 Legal evaluation is made on the issue of producing, transporting and storage of explosive materials and regulations related to explosives
7 Types of fire, fire prevention, fire-related regulations, A, B and C class fires, prevention methods
8 Occupational illness
9 Work safety rules in underground mines, regulations, technical inspectorate, responsibilities and obligations
10 Homework presentations and discussion
11 Electricity and its hazards, protection methods from electricity, work safety preventions related electricity Risk analysis, Risk evaluation Explaining risk analysis and evaluation with examples
