Course Objective |
This course provides an understanding on how to manage health and safety risks associated with hazardous chemicals. The lesson will be helpful for the students who aim to conduct a business with chemicals in their workplace. These can be a manufacturer, importer or supplier of hazardous chemicals, or a business owner, who uses, handles, generates or stores hazardous chemicals at their workplace. This course applies to substances, mixtures and articles used, handled, generated or stored at the workplace which are defined as hazardous chemicals under the WHS Regulations. This course also applies to the generation of hazardous chemicals from work processes, for example toxic fumes released during welding. The fallowing industries can be given as examples which need the managing of risks for chemicals in their workplace: Agriculture, battery industry, chemical industry, electrical industry, explosives industry, food industry, gas industry, laboratories, metal production and manufacturing industry, mining industry, paint industry, paper industry, petroleum industry, pharmaceutical manufacture, plastic manufacture, textile industry and etc. |

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods |
The course will go on as class presentation and sometimes will be in interactive format. All course members are expected to attend the lectures and submission hours and take part in the submission/ discussion sessions. Besides, oral presentations on selected topics are to be prepared by the students. |
