Course Objective

This course aims to understand biotransformation of lignocellulosic biomass, which are abundant on earth and accepted as potential contaminants to produce economically the enzymes having biotechnological importance and research the examples of industrial applications such as protein, bio-etanol and xylitol, etc.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to learn what are constituent of lignocellulosic biomass,
2   How the lignocellulose biodegradation is carried out in nature,
3   What is role of microorganisms and their enzymatic systems in lignocellulose biodegradation,
4   What is the biotechnological applications of lignocellulose,
5   What is the biotechnological applications of lignocelluloses degradation.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term, final and resit exams and presentations.
