Course Objective

In this course, analyzing and discussing of the cases on the different approaches on
conservation of historical urban areas of various World Countries which is particularly
includes integrated strategies will be executed. The aim of the course is to provide
the students to comprehend the relation of urban conservation processes and national
values and dynamics, to discuss the different countries interventions in the context of
public good and socio-economy, to compare the different approaches and methods by
questioning them and to choose the convenient approaches for Turkey's practice.

Midterm and final exam will be in the form of homework. Assignments can take the form of a field study or reporting and presentation of conceptual research. Midterm and final exam assignments can be independent or related to each other.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to associate the studies of urban conservation with national and local values and dynamics of the countries (comprehension)
2   Will be able to distinguish different urban conservation approaches and interventions (comprehension)
3   Will be able to choose appropriate convenient approaches for Turkey's practice (application)
4   Will be able to compare different approaches and methods of urban conservation (analysis)
5   Will be able to discuss urban conservation approaches of various countries in the basis of public good and socio-economical contexts (analysis)

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures and disscussions on the presentations of the
cases. Students will learn topics by attending and listening to the lectures and also
by prepearing and presenting the assignments that will be given to them.
