Course Objective

The objective of this course is to teach fundamentals of automation system and modern control techniques in marine engineering to provide background:
For understanding operation of navigation; control systems of cruise, communication, main machine, heating, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning, power generation and distribution and deck machinery,
to determine the requirements of the control systems or units to integrate their designs,
to establish communicational and informative skills to collaborate in multidisciplinary projects with mechanical, electrical and electronics engineers and computer engineers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To describe control systems in marine engines using control systems schematics.
2   To identify the appropriate actuators for the control process
3   To compute the power need of systems
4   To choose the appropriate motion unit for control parameters
5   To select the ideal control type for control process

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theoretical background is explained in details with presentations. Students should complete term projects focuses on practical issues of the subjects included in course.
