Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed to
­ Defining and understanding a problem and applying solution strategies critically,
­ Accomplishing problem-based learning process in biotechnology,
­ Improving problem-solving skills in biotechnology research.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students able to: Explain problem-based learning methods and strategies,
2   Be aware of the importance of effective factors in problem-based learning and discuss these factors,
3   Examine the stages of the problem-based learning process,
4   Define a problem in the field of biotechnology,
5   Address the problem effectively by accessing information sources in the field of biotechnology, and discuss in their groups,
6   Produce solution ways to the biotechnology problem in their groups,
7   Work collaboratively, share information and make effective presentations as a group member in their groups,
8   Improve problem-solving, analytical thinking, time management, effective technology use, and communication skills.

9 In the solution of a biotechnology problem example, satisfying of the process development by group members benefiting from sources such as laboratory, industry, expert opinion

11 Reporting of data related to the biotechnology problem in group work, discussing and providing additional information if required
12 Presentations of groups about biotechnology problem solving steps in classroom and evaluations

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with active participation to the lecture, homework, midterm, final and resit exams.
