Course Objective

This course aims to give extensive information about sludge management and sludge treatment resulting from wastewater treatment plant operations and processes. Basic terms, definitions and calculations related to sludge handling and disposal are introduced first, then thickening, stabilization, conditioning and dewatering processes are presented in detail.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students have information about the sources of wastewater sludges, quantities, characteristics and its handling and disposal facilities
2   Students learn thickening methods and tickener design
3   Students learn stabilization methods and how to design anaerobic and aerobic digesters
4   Students learn conditioning and dewatering methods and their design spacifications
5   Students learn sludge management and valorization concept in general
