Course Objective

The main objective of the course is to expose graduate students to fundamental environmental fate and transport processes, with emphasis on ground water and soil systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to derive advection-dispersion equation for contaminant transport in saturated soil
2   To be able to estimate breakthrough concentrations and times for contaminants in the subsurface
3   To be able to analyze breakthorugh curves of contaminants
4   To be able to describe terms and concepts related to subsurface hydrology
5   To be able to evaluate column tracer experiments
6   To be able to explain fundamental differences between contaminant mass transport in the saturated versus the unsaturated zone
