Course Objective

The course aims to explain necessary criterions on new settlement planings (micro zonning) to decrease effects of earthquakes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to repeat the undergraduate knowledge of related subjects shortly. 2   To be able to understand the sedimentary and rock sites,buried fault system 3   To be able to understand static and dynamic parameters of ground 4   To be able to understand acceleration and amplification 5   To be able to understand settlement and liquefaction analysis 6   To be able to understand focal mechanism distributions and construction settlement 7   To be able to understand the risc studies 8   To be able to get planning abilities

Course Contents

Week Subject Description 1 Presentation of the lecture and giving the reference list 2 Presentation and classification of the sites 3 Underground water level in alluvial basins, thickness of alluvium, application and presentation methods to research the base topography (bed-rock depth). 4 Presentation the fault systems and giving research methods with applications 5 Presentation the related parameters, 6 The relations between the related parameters and their uses in application 7 Biggest horizontal acceleration in the bed-rock, amplification of the earthquake amplitude by the layered-site effect 8 Presentation of the Effective Peak-Ground Acceleration (EPGA) concepts at surface and calculation methods. Using types of these parameters in application. 9 Presentation of the issues and examination of the different analysis methods 10 Current application and presentation of examples from the close environment 11 Earthquake classification, construction settlements and its relationship with the focal mechanism solutions and distributions. 12 During the construction phase and economic life of the buildings, investigation the occurrence probability of an earthquake with a specific magnitude. 13 During the economic life of any building, performing an earthquake statistical analysis with greater or equal to a specific magnitude (Poisson, Gumbel distribution of extreme values, Exponential, Markov, etc.). 14 On the elucidating of all knowledge, location planning (floor heights, recreation areas, etc.)
