Course Objective

It s known that children behaviors on different scaled places are affected by demographic, developmental, social, cultural and economic variables. In view of the fact that children perceive the place different from adults and act according to that perception, the places characteristics that designed for children may need to be different from the places characteristics that designed for adults. In this course, it s aimed to discuss how the children perceive the place, and how they act according to that perception. As well, it aimed to measure the discussed physical environmental variables that are influential on children s place perceptions, furthermore, children s behaviours on places by an empirical research.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, the students are expected to define the theories on children development and child-place interaction, and variables that influence child behaviours,
2   to compare the children place implementations on world and Türkiye,
3   to interpret the physical environment qualities of urban design scale that are influential on children s place use,
4   to evaluate the methods on measuring children s place perception,
5   to design an empirical research on children places.

Description and Comparison are evaluated by the Homework assignment. Interpretation and Measure are evaluated by the Presentation. Designing is evaluated by Final Exam.
