Course Objective

Urban design practice is a supplementary part of planning education. This course aims at developing urban design skills of planning students on various area-based approaches. Within the context of this course, students will be able to work on different subject areas and projects.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Discussion of project studio framework, determination of case study topic and discussion of related theoretical perspectives.
2 Field study. Collection of all sorts of data, maps and documents; the topics analyzed throughout the course to be considered.
3 Transfer of all the obtained data into written or drawn documents, and discussion of urban design practices. Giving homework related to case study
4 Homework study.

6 Homework Presentations.
7 Evaluation of analyses, synthesis. Definition of problem areas.
8 Research and gathering information, analyses.
9 Efforts to edit the research. Proposals for solving the problems.
10 Sketch drawing of the project.

All descriptive, guiding data and document; and administrative and legislative aspects the subject of the project requires.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In context of area-based projects, students will obtain the required information within group work. After having obtained the necessary data and documents the synthesis works and projects will be carried on by the students individually. Project reports will be given primary importance in terms of presentation and context both.
