Course Objective

The course aims to teach the students from design disciplines how to represent floating bodies forms and the basic hydrostatics calculations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to recognize the different ships and small crafts hull forms.
2   Learning the form coefficients of ships.
3   To be able to draw ship forms.
4   Recognize the static and dynamic characteristics of ship forms.
5   To be able to compare different floating bodies forms.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction to naval architecture, classification of ships and small crafts, ship geometry and ve form coefficents.
2 Design methods of ship form, ship drawing tools.
3 Drawing the ship lines plan: preparation of the offfset table.
4 Drawing the ship lines plan: Drawing the net lines, stern post, stem and sheer lines.
5 Drawing the ship lines plan: Drawing the sections.
6 Drawing the ship lines plan: Drawing the waterlines.
7 Drawing the ship lines plan: Drawing the buttocks.
8 Drawing the ship lines plan: Drawing the diagonals
9 Numerical integration methods (Trapezoidal and Simpson).
10 Introduction to ship static (hydrostatic and stability).
11 Introduction to ship static (hydrostatic and stability).
12 Drawing of general arrangement plan: superstructures , accommodations, detailed sections.
