Metallurgical and Material Engineering

Course Objective

This course aims to
-familiarize the students with the methods of advanced ceramic technology,
-help students to understand the importance of preparation of powder raw materials and its treatment in correct form for the use of relative processing methods,
-equip students with theoretical and experimental abilities in processing, with emphasis on the fundamental scientific and engineering principles,
-help students to develop a sense of awareness relating the impact of microstructure on properties of ceramics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to have a deep understanding of the selected topics in advanced ceramic processing and use this knowledge on own research problems,
2   to understand and identify powder synthesis, characterization and surface/ colloidal chemistry related to ceramic processing,
3   to describe methods for the fabrication processes and equipment involved in advanced ceramic processing,
4   to understand processing, properties and microstructure for the most common structural ceramics,
5   to interpret the sintering mechanism and influence of microstructure on ceramic properties
