Course Objective

The main purpose of the lecture is to instruct the planning and design rules of the breakwater and berthing structures in the coastal zone in the light of the available guidelines and scientific criteria

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to classify nearshore structures
2   Ability to apply basic design criteria for berthing and mooring structures
3   Ability to apply basic design criteria for groins and jetties
4   Ability to apply basic design criteria for rubble mound breakwaters
5   Ability to apply basic design criteria for monolithic breakwaters
6   Ability to apply basic design criteria for floating breakwaters
7   Ability to plan shore protection and berthing structures with an integrated approach
