Course Objective

The analysis of non-stationary signals with traditional methods suffers from the lack of the time localization of a given frequency component. Time-frequency representations have been used successfully for these purposes in many applications, such as speech, radar and sonar, image, and biological signal processing. This course is intended to give some insight of the time-frequency distributions and their applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Teaches analytical tools for combined time and frequency analysis
2   Obtaining an intuition on which representation system should be used for the compression of a given class of signals or operators
3   Knowledge of the elements of time and frequency methods
4   Knowledge of common algorithms in time-frequency analysis
