Course Objective

The aim of the course is to discuss the buildings as being the spatial representation of the early industrial period and to examine the possibility of refunctioning of these samples that have lost their original functions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The discussion of the industrial archaeology concept.
2   The evaluation of the issue in particular of the western countries.
3   Architectural characteristics of the representative spaces.
4   The conservation problems of the samples of industrial archaeology in Turkey and the possibilities of their refunctioning.
5   The examination of the cases in Western countries and in Turkey.

1 The definition and the scope of industrial archaeology and its relationship with the other areas.
2 The evaluation of the situation related with the subject in western countries, related international organizations and institutions.

4 Gathering of the data related with industrial archaeology and its evaluation.
5 The production technology during the pre-industry period in Turkey, architectural principles of the spaces of representation and the evaluation of problems through different approaches.
