Course Objective

This course aimed to discuss the tendencies about housing production sectors of Izmir in the context of the history of the city and global dynamics and also to research the contemporary housing designs and urban developments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to discuss the history of housing architecture of Izmir and contemporary housing trends
2   To be able to understand the transformations of housing design in the context of urban development throughout the history of architecture.
3   To be able to describe different social, economical, political, cultural effects and different parameters, which formed the housing architecture of Izmir
4   To be able to understand dialectic relationship between urban development dynamics and housing architecture
5   To be able to present a study on housing approachments of Izmir by oral, visual and in writing

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures: Theoretical lectures will be given and applied presentetaions.
Researchand Design Excercises: Students will be expected to present their projects. However, design exercises or workshops will be practiced at the end of the term. Students must actively participate the courses all term.

Assessment Criteria

Exams covers the reading texts and presentations made during the theoretical part of the course. Assignments might be given in the light of group presentations and weekly discussions and prepared individually. In order to achieve the final exam, it is highly recommended to submit all assignments on time and regularly, and revise them with the guidance of the instructor. Group presentations require a collaborative effort. It is the group's responsibility to ensure that each group member contributes to the group work equally. Student participation will depend on, the student's attendance, the quality of student's responses to the questions during the course and the student's contribution to create a positive learning environment.
