Course Objective

This course aims to inform exposure to the toxic agents (poisons), mechanisms of toxicity, organ toxicity and toxicity test, and factors effecting toxicity.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   classify toxic agents and to compare exposure via inhalation, skin and gastrointestinal ways,
2   explain accumulations of xenobiotics on organs such as liver, kidney and bone and excretions of xenobiotics via renal, hepatic and exhalation,
3   learn toxicokinetic models, kinetics related to doses and kinetics in the repetition of exposure,
4   discuss mechanisms of toxicity (binding to receptors, binding to enzymes, binding other molecules, binding small molecules or ions, inhibition of energy production on a cell),
5   learn toxicity tests and discuss factors effecting toxicity from the view of chemical substances, exposure ways, type of organism and environmental factors.
