Course Objective

The course aims to provide information about on the identities and hazards of the chemicals, international standards (Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA): the Hazard Communication Standard and others) Chemical Safety, Understanding of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) forms for chemicals used in industry, first-aid
measures, followed by fire-fighting measures, acceptable exposure limits.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   This course is expected to help the students to make an assessment on chemicals hazards, also aims at maintaining a high level of safety and protection for humans and the environment in contact with industrial chemicals.
2   To develop the students analytical abilities and ability to criticize and solve problems regarding chemicals.
3   To give the students further information on tools of how to undertake empirical research.
4   Students are expected to know international labeling rules and protocols regarding industrial chemicals.
5   Students are expected to know and manage some risks regarding industrial chemicals.

1 Classification of chemical hazards considering international conventions (Flammable or Combustible, Oxidizers, Reactive Chemicals, Water-reactive Chemicals, Pyrophoric Chemicals, Peroxide-forming Chemicals, Shock-Sensitive and Friction-Sensitive Explosives, Compressed Gases)
2 Chemicals in terms of health hazards (Allergens and Sensitizers, Primary Anesthetics, Blood Toxins, Carcinogens.
3 (Corrosives) (Environmental Toxins) (Irritants) (Reproductive Health Hazards)Teratogens Mutagens
4 In to detail with examples; (Reactive Chemicals, Water-reactive Chemicals, Pyrophoric Chemicals, Peroxide-forming Chemicals, Compressed Gases, Cryogenic liquids
