Course Objective

The main aim of this course is to provide knowledge on characteristic properties and geologic occurrence of natural zeolites. The course also aims to teach determination of zeolite occurrences in sedimentary rocks.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to learn basic properties of natural zeolite minerals
2   To be able to define the natural zeolites in rocks
3   To be able to identify mineralogic and petrografic characteristics of zeolite-bearing rocks
4   To be able to interpret chemical environment for zeolite formation in rocks
5   To be able to work in exploration of natural zeolite occurrences

6 Zeolites in burial diagenesis
7 Zeolites in hydrothermally altered rocks
8 Zeolites in deep-sea sediments
9 Determination of zeolite mineral types by XRD studies
10 Determination of zeolite mineral types by SEM-EDS studies
11 Natural zeolite deposits and their characteristic features in Turkey and Word
12 Detailed examination of one of known sedimentary zeolite occurrence in Turkey Zeolites in tuffs of Alacatı (Çeşme-Izmir) area
