Offered By

Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences

Level of Course Unit

Second Cycle Programmes (Master's Degree)

Course Coordinator

PROFESSOR DOCTOR OSMAN CANDAN

Offered to

Economic Geology
Economic Geology

Course Objective

The main topic of the course is the identification of the formation pressure and temperature conditions of metamorphic and igneous rocks. To fullfill this aim, the first stage is to introduce fundamental petrological and thermodynamic terms. As the second stage, calibration formulas and applications by several researchers are introduced.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding of the fundamental thermodynamic principles used in geothermobarometric calculations
2   Identification of fundamental metamorphic reactions used in geothermobarometric calculations
3   Understanding of fundamental problems experienced in geothermobarometric applications.
4   Understanding of fundamentals of the geothermometric calculations based on exchange reactions
5   Geothermometric calculations based on net transfer reactions
