Course Objective

As a leader in spatial technology integration, GIS Workshop specializes in the development of custom geographic information system (GIS) solutions, whether it is a custom application for your
organization, an extension to ArcGIS, or GIS systems integration into your existing software. Our IT integration specialists can marry your current database solution, GPS, imagery, and GIS technology to
spatially enable your information technology and decision support systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand how geographic information systems are applied to land use and environmental planning issues
2   To effectively communicate the benefits of GIS applications to society
3   To understand the principles of land classification and field methods to support land use inventory, including the efficiencies associated with the use of geospatial technologies
4   To apply GIS to analyze land use patterns at the parcel level
5   To complete a class project that supports urban planning efforts in a Great Lakes coastal community
6   To learn to work effectively in a group setting
7   To sharpen writing skills directed at an audience of professional planners
