Course Objective

This course is in the form of a potpourri of fairly novel networking technics and/or technics that may be used in Networking. Each attending student proposes and presents a different network technology topic which may be a software or hardware solution approach to a kind of well-known networking problem. Topics may be related to Data Transmission Media and devices, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Long-Distance Communication, Packet Transmission, Packets and Frames, Error Detection, Frame Format and Error Detection Mechanisms, Security, LAN Technologies and Network Topology, LAN Active Devices, Long Distance Digital Communication Technologies, WAN Technologies and Routing, Protocols and Layering, Internetworking, IP Datagrams, Wireless networks.

1 Introduction. Main titles of advanced networking.
2 Classification of Networking topics. Main hardware problems in today`s networks. Main software problems in today`s networks
3 High speed Networks. Frame/Relay. ATM.
4 Routing in Internet. Internal routing protocols (RIP). Exterior routing protocols (BGP)
5 Quality of service in IP Networks. QoS routing. Classifying models. OSPF and QOSPF.
6 Optic router Networks. MPLS in Optic networks.
7 Network Security. Authorization methods. Port based security and authorization.
8 Security as a Quality of Service issue. SPAM.
9 New proposals in High speed networking. DTM.
10 Mobile networks. Mobile IP solutions.
11 IP Router based advancements. IP level congestion control.
12 Random Early detection algorithms.
13 Internet and Multimedia. Multicasting. M-Bone.
14 Virtual Private networks. Peer to peer model VPNs. New protocols in VPNing.
