Course Objective

This course aims at defining urban growth and urban sprawl, presenting urban growth theories with the circumstances under which they have developed, getting to comprehend growth management strategies, interpreting the rural-urban fringe as part of metropolitan city of Izmir, analysing the relationships between theory and practice, proposing a normative growth control system and revising the actual one.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students, will be able to define growth and sprawl (knowledge)
2   will be able to list the theories of urban growth historically (Knowledge),
3   will be able to describe growth management strategies (Comprehension),
4   will be able to interprete the the rural-urban fringe (Application),
5   will be able to relate theory to practice (Analysis),
6   will be able to propose a new (normative) growth control system (Synthesis),
7   will be able to revise the actual control system (Evaluation).

10 Blending Regulations and Incentives to Manage Fringe Growth
11 Homework/Submission/Presentation Students will be required to submit their homeworks and present their studies briefly to each other in this week.

14 On the Revision of the Turkish Urban Growth Control System

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures. Students will learn topics by attending and listening the lectures. Homeworks will be given to students in 7th Week and they will be asked to prepare their homeworks on the subjects given to them.
